> Google's Founders and Leadership

Who are the founders of Google?

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two brilliant computer scientists who met at Stanford University in the late 1990s. Larry Page, born on March 26, 1973, in East Lansing, Michigan, and Sergey Brin, born on August 21, 1973, in Moscow, Russia, both shared a passion for technology and a vision to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

Larry Page, while pursuing his Ph.D. at Stanford, became intrigued by the idea of exploring the relationship between web pages through their links. He devised an algorithm called PageRank, which analyzed the number and quality of links pointing to a webpage to determine its relevance. This algorithm formed the foundation of Google's search engine and revolutionized the way information was retrieved on the internet.

Sergey Brin, also a Ph.D. student at Stanford, joined forces with Larry Page to develop their search engine project further. Together, they built a prototype search engine called "Backrub," which operated on Stanford's servers. As their project gained momentum, they realized its potential and decided to transform it into a full-fledged company.

In September 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated their venture as Google Inc., with its name derived from the mathematical term "googol," representing the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. This name choice reflected their mission to organize an immense amount of information available on the web.

As co-founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin played pivotal roles in shaping the company's culture, technology, and long-term vision. Larry Page served as Google's CEO from its inception until 2001 when Eric Schmidt took over the role. However, Page resumed the position of CEO in 2011 and held it until 2015 when Google restructured into Alphabet Inc., a conglomerate overseeing various subsidiaries including Google. Sergey Brin, on the other hand, served as Google's President of Technology and later as President of Alphabet Inc.

Under the leadership of Page and Brin, Google expanded its offerings beyond search to include a wide range of products and services, such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, and Google Chrome. They also oversaw significant acquisitions, including YouTube in 2006 and Android in 2005, which propelled Google's growth and influence in various industries.

In 2019, Larry Page and Sergey Brin stepped down from their executive roles at Alphabet Inc., with Sundar Pichai taking over as CEO of both Google and Alphabet. Despite their departure from day-to-day operations, Page and Brin remain actively involved as board members and major shareholders of Alphabet Inc., ensuring their continued influence on the company's direction.

The visionary leadership of Larry Page and Sergey Brin has not only transformed Google into one of the most influential technology companies but has also shaped the way we access and interact with information in the digital age. Their innovative mindset, commitment to excellence, and relentless pursuit of knowledge have left an indelible mark on the world.
